WAY 21 : Avoid All Drink , Drugs , etc.,

If you drink a Beer , will it send you to Hell ?

No, but you have a right to wonder about your Spiritual commitment or even if you are saved , if drinking and drugs are common occurrences in your life .

Although the Bible does not condemn occasional drinking , it does condemn drunkardness .
It also warns about cause and effect .

My parents were frequent drinkers . They were responsible about it from what I saw . I never saw them drunk . They were religious , but not believers .
However , their son ( me ) , was a drunk until I got saved .

My cousin owns a liquor store . As a young man , he was wild . But as an adult , I have never seen him drunk or out of control .

But I have never seen a Christian that drinks who has not had drinking/drug problems with their children or their own spiritual issues . One of my wife’s friends husband is a Sunday School teacher at a church we used to attend . According to her , when he would get home from work every night , he would get drunk . BUT NOT ON SUNDAY !!

The following verses are a few of the many verses where scripture exhorts that we not be given to wine .

Proverbs 23:30-32

30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

Proverbs 23:21

21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Proverbs 26:9

9 As a thorn goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouths of fools.

Matthew 11:19

19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Luke 1:15

15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.

1 Corinthians 5:11

11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.

Ephesians 5:18

18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

1 Timothy 3:3

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

1 Timothy 3:8

8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

Titus 1:7

7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

Titus 2:3

3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

1 Peter 4:3

3 For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
